WWHAT CAN YOU EXPECT FROM THIS CONSULTATION SESSION?

The rhinoplasty evaluation consultation with Prof. Dr. Rui Xavier is always a lengthy process. This consultation is fundamental so the surgeon perfectly understands what the patient wishes to change about their noses. During this process, Prof. Dr. Rui Xavier carries out careful analysis of the patient's nose, taking notes on all the minor nasal deformities while also evaluating the functional interior sections of the nose.

These minor nose deformities are shown to the patient alongside discussion between Prof. Dr. Rui Xavier and the patient about the correction possible in each case. Prof. Dr. Rui Xavier then draws up a surgical plan that is explained to the patient during the same consultation. This plan is described and discussed in detail with the patient until reaching a consensus on the changes to be made by surgery.

Prof. Dr. Rui Xavier also produces a computer simulation of the predictable outcome of rhinoplasty. Although this is an approximation and reflects the inherent limitations of imaging software, this simulation, performed during the same consultation, enables the patient to foresee the approximate result and to study in detail the aspects for modification. This simulation also enables the contrasting of different surgical strategies so that the patient and Prof. Dr. Rui Xavier may then choose the most appropriate option for the best outcomes.

During this evaluation session, Prof. Dr. Rui Xavier explains how the surgery will be performed, the necessary post-operative care, the period of absence from normal activities as well as answering any questions raised by the patient.

WHAT TO EXPECT FROM THIS CONSULTATION?

The evaluation appointment for rhinoplasty made by Prof. doctor Rui Xavier is always quite time consuming. This consultation is essential so that the surgeon can perfectly understand what the patient wants to change in his nose. In this consultation, Prof. doctor Rui Xavier makes a careful analysis of the patient's nose, taking note of all the small deformities of the nose and also evaluating the functional part of the inside of the nose. These small deformities of the nose are shown to the patient and the eventual correction of each one of them is discussed between Prof. doctor Rui Xavier and the patient. Afterwards, Prof. doctor Rui Xavier draws up a surgical plan that is explained to the patient during the consultation. This plan is described in detail and is discussed with the patient until a consensus is reached on the modifications to be made in the surgery. doctor Rui Xavier does a computer simulation of the predictable result of rhinoplasty.   • > WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN RHINOPLASTY AND RHINOMODELLING?

    Rhinoplasty is a surgical procedure that, besides its aesthetic functions, can correct functional problems of the nose. Rhinomodelling, on the other hand, is an aesthetic procedure that corrects small imperfections in the nose.

  • > HOW LONG DOES RHINOPLASTY TAKE?

    The duration of the intervention will always depend on the complexity of the case but, on average, generally takes between 2 to 4 hours.

  • > WHAT TYPE OF ANAESTHESIA IS REQUIRED FOR RHINOPLASTY?

    Rhinoplasty require general anaesthesia so you won't feel anything.

  • > WHAT IS THE RECOVERY LIKE?

    Prof. Dr. Rui Xavier does not use nasal tamponade as a method and therefore the recovery is much more pleasant. Nevertheless, the patches remain in place for about 10 days and the splint has to be worn at night for 30 days. As far as pain is concerned, it is already rare to have pain from day 2 onwards and easily controlled with paracetamol. However, there will be some bruising for a maximum of 10 days and you can only safely return to any kind of exercise one month after the surgery.

  • > ARE THERE ANY RISKS?

    Any surgical intervention has associated risks. However, in the case of a rhinoplasty, these are minimal. This primarily stems from the patient being properly consulted, prepared and accompanied by Prof. Dr. Rui Xavier and his expert team.

  • > WILL I BE LEFT WITH SCARS?

    No. The incision that is made is very small and often internal so it will not leave a scar.

  • > CAN I CHOOSE ANY "NEW" NOSE?

    The choice of the "new" nose has to take into consideration the balance required by your face. Therefore, you cannot just choose any shape. By respecting this balance, your face will display a natural and harmonious aspect.

  • > FROM WHAT AGE IS IT POSSIBLE TO UNDERGO RHINOPLASTY?

    Before changing the structure of the nose, it is recommended to wait until its structures are completely developed. Therefore, it is feasible to perform rhinoplasty from 16/18 years of age.

  • > IS BREATHING AFFECTED?

    If the rhinoplasty is just cosmetic, breathing will be slightly affected in the first days after surgery, because the nose will be more swollen. Afterwards, it will return to normal. However, if the rhinoplasty is functional, breathing will improve, as internal nose problems will be resolved.

  • > WHAT IS THE PRICE OF RHINOPLASTY?

    The price will depend on your specific case and will be estimated following the evaluation session with Prof. Dr. Rui Xavier.
